We’ve made no secret of how excited we were about Katie Ann McGuigan’s Merit Award winning AW17 show and, when the time actually came, it was a highlight of LFW for us. We interviewed Katie before London Fashion Week and she told us to expect “Leather/ Print/And Print” in the show, exactly what she delivered. A primary colour range provided the foundation for sporty co-ords and oversize puffas, as well as long, ladylike coats and heavily textural circle skirts. Linear graphics ruled, from chevrons to stripes and crosses, morphing into 80s arcade game inspired prints and shapes.
Apart from the bold slap of colour, the technical skill was the other element that really shone through – vinyl laser cutting, ink printing, heavyweight knitwear and leatherwork all hung together, perfectly executed and skillfully fused. The grounding element in the bold, punchy colour was provided by occasional classic checks and tweed. We loved the midnight blue cape, the unexpectedly elegant puffas and, of course, those statement skirts.
