There was something wonderfully sinister about the bunny eared models who wore the largely monochrome collection designed by Belgrade designer Budislava. Donny Darko comparisons were inevitable. However, the intention – she told us back stage after the show – was not to generate a shudder down the spine but to provide a blank canvas for the designs; anonymising the models so that the eye was drawn to garments not to cheekbones (Serbian models are seriously striking so this is understandable). Budislava has an apparent dislike of seams so her pieces have a continuity and smoothness that makes them look almost sculptural. The polka dot sheer fabric, fashioned into loose leggings (leg warmers?) and a gown had some serious impact. The designer’s use of light and shade and manipulated textures produced contrasts of movement and stillness – a flowing pair of pleated trousers, an immovable cropped coat. It was a strong and sophisticated line.
