Show report: Han Wen Fashion Scout SS17 London Fashion Week

We’ve already talked big about Chinese born designer Han Wen, Parsons grad and winner of this year’s Fashion Scout Merit Award. The images of the SS17 collection we saw before the show made quite an impact but in the flesh they were even more textural, creative and fascinating. Han Wen uses fabrics almost in opposites – leather becomes delicate while sheers have a stark minimalism to them. We loved the emphasis on the hardware – rivet-punctured material for straps, metal rings for seams, zips that made garments adaptable to wear and re-wear. Apart from the bold splashes of red the collection was awash with custardy yellows, organic strawberry ice cream pinks and icy whites. The deconstruction of established ideals of fashion and beauty continued above the neck too with whited out skin and slicked back hair. Something about the contrast of the very unconventional deconstruction with ultra feminine tiers, ruffles and pleats produced a conceptual collection with a surprisingly wearable feel.
