Vin + Omi SS17
The Dreaming represents an objective shift for Vin + Omi, refocusing their considerable talents on the RTW market. However, despite fabrics and fits that were notably more wearable, the energy, creativity and outspoken style we’ve come to expect from these two remained. Black paper birds hung from the ceiling in the Congress Centre and wisps of black plastic covered the floor. Models walked, trance-like, to a soundtrack of wistful tunes and – at the end, fittingly – Zombie by the Cranberries. Giant nests of hair housed paintbrushes and palettes and baseball caps were fronted with glinting barricades of cutlery. Bodies and bags were adorned with ‘Enough,’ ‘Stop’ and No Gun signs while fabric prints ranged from peonies to body parts, demonic birds and skulls. With its Tim Burton colour palette and unexpected textural ebbs and flows, it was a collection with the right balance of commercial backbone and unobtainable style. It was surreal, nightmarish, beautiful and captivating, from start to finish.
