Paula Knorr AW19 London Fashion Week

For AW19, German-born womenswear designer Paula Knorr brought us a dazzling modern take on eveningwear via a decidedly glam collection with serious disco vibes.

Knorr plays with volume and fitted silhouettes in the shimmering fabrics her brand has become synonymous with; bold figure hugging looks are styled alongside luscious draping in delicate sequined textiles finished with strategic lycra panels for ease of movement. For AW19 there were hints of sports luxe detailing in lurex ribbing and extravagant palazzo pants, as well as luxurious silk gowns, show-stopping iridescent kaftans, and glossy velvet cocktail dresses.  Lycra jersey separates in shocking neon hues were adorned with Swarovski crystals, and the designer even gave us the modern sartorial version of Dorothy’s ruby slippers, in the form of a cheongsam-inspired cocktail dress.

Oversized and exaggerated, AW19’s statement sleeves were a veritable waterfall of glistening sequins and liquid metals; bold colour was paired with tactile velvets shot through with gold and silver thread, soft viscose and draped silk in a captivating colour palette of lipstick shades in crimson, deep berry red, magenta, and blush pink.

The brand’s focus is eveningwear, and Knorr is a great believer in the need for comfort as well as style; though her creations may be covered in lavish sparkle and shine, she incorporates jersey and lycra fabrics alongside sequins, lamé, and innovative liquid velvets.

Paula Knorr has become synonymous with show-stopping red carpet ready looks; there were top-to-toe sparkles in heavily embellished gowns alongside sequined cocktail dresses. These are clothes to walk in, to laugh in, and above all else, to dance in.
