Show report: Gareth Pugh AW16 Fashion Scout, London Fashion Week
“Pleased to meet you. Pleased to have you on my plate,” crooned Grace Jones' voice, opening the AW16/17 Gareth Pugh show – this season on the Fashion Scout schedule – with a perfect balance of drama and malicious intent. Pugh is a designer with an effortless touch when it comes to combining refined luxe and feminine strength, and this collection delivered iconic womanly silhouettes in many forms. Eighties power suits, vintage victory rolls, star spangled tailoring, Thatcher-esque pussy bows and Silence of the Lambs facemasks threw themes of innocence and power, sinister and iconic into the mix. We loved the balance of curves and boxy angles, intimate bruised, berry red lips and shaded eyes, and the stalking Glamazons against backdrop of a resolutely masculine Freemason’s Hall. You may not fancy the nightmare Hannibal Lecter facial accessory but the rest of the collection was a dream.
