Amesh SS18 London Fashion Week
SS18 was a debut season for designer Amesh Wijesekera who presented his initial collection at Fashion Scout in collaboration with SRI, a sustainable lifestyle label launching in February 2018. The brand philosophy is one that we can seriously get behind, “Treasured pieces that speak of a place, a story, rather than a season or a trend.” No disposable fast fashion here.
Amesh SS18 was very much inspired by the designer’s home country of Sri Lanka and celebrated both its mindblowingly beautiful natural landscapes and the rich and vibrant local culture. It also took its inspiration from themes of ethical business and sustainability, drawing on a blend of local and traditional techniques to create beautiful pieces with intricate details, from ombre to herringbone effects. We loved the colour palette of this collection, which was alive with sunsets and sweetshop shades, tropical florals and vibrant tones. Relaxed shapes and flowing fabrics delivered low key yet high impact styles.
The aesthetic seamlessly blended the contemporary with the cultural inspiration of Early Ceylon. It was clearly designed for a cultured but carefree and adventurous consumer with an eye both on fashion now - and its impact on the world in the future. A conscious and carefully curated collection, the designs had a light, fresh feel, from the bursts of lemon yellow to the wild scarlets and fun motifs. It was a good looking way to deliver a thought provoking message.
