Globelle by Nelly Rose SS18 London Fashion Week
Nelly Rose first crossed our path in AW16 when her ‘Co-identity’ collaboration with Odette Steele and Dian Pelangi was one of Fashion Scout’s Ones to Watch. We spoke to her backstage at the time and she told us how the collection was designed to bridge cultural gaps and be inclusive so as to give anyone the opportunity to express themselves through style. These themes of collaboration and empowerment, as well as traceability and ethical sourcing, have travelled with the designer into her latest work: Globelle by Nelly Rose.
The SS18 collection is a fusion of three collaborations: London x Guatemala, London x Japan and London x Palestine. Each one adds something unique to the overall aesthetic, from bold prints, to intricate beading and bright, 3D accessories. Models danced in upbeat abstract printed dresses, silver trousers and modestly cut crops. Relaxed fits and casual cut outs made the collection feel cool and streetwise without being over engineered or overly exposed. Hand prints were everywhere - beaded into garments, cut into perspex earrings and even on the walls.
We especially loved the beaded chokers which expressed various different sentiments, from 'United' to 'Love' and the colourful embroidery was to die for. Nelly is a young designer who has really nailed that point at which inclusivity, empowerment and ethics meet style without compromise. Her talent, outlook and attitude show just what thoughtful fashion can look like.
