LFW: Ester Kubisz AW17 Show Report
Ester Kubisz first appeared on our radar as part of the Ones to Watch showcase at Fashion Scout SS17. Her unique raw style and talent for deconstruction producing a collection of gender fluid pieces with a strong, urban theme. For AW17, a largely monochrome collection dominated by bold black and white stripes, part jailhouse, party candy striper. While the City continued to provide inspiration (tailored pieces and suiting fabrics dominated), this season was more rock n roll, from the shrunken sleeves, to the guitars the models brandished.
Regeneration remains an ongoing theme for Ester – her collection inspiration was the redevelopment of abandoned areas of Detroit – and in fashion form this emerged as clothing repurposed and reused, waistbands turned into belts, blazers shredded into capes. The collection was clever, intense and high impact, the work of a designer delivering more than just aesthetic appeal.
