LFW: Malan Breton AW17 Show Report
Malan Breton’s show at Fashion Scout AW17 was the second for the designer in a month with a runway spot at New York Fashion Week a matter of weeks before. Perhaps it was the historic setting of Freemasons Hall with its elaborate interiors and hallowed halls feel but, in London the designs had just that touch more gravitas.
Dapper, accomplished and pristine, the looks for AW17 were a mix of tightly tailored leathers and variations on a suiting theme. The intricate brocade in green and gold that wove its wave through hooded tailored jackets, second skin suits and coats was a highlight for us, particularly when it took tailored pieces on an unconventional turn – a maxi dress with a bomber jacket, for example. The show ended with a series of dramatic dresses, from full length tiered leather, to laser cut and fishtail designs. The collection was designed as a tribute to screen icon Charlie Chaplin who might have watched it and felt “Life is a beautiful magnificent thing.” Fashion can do that to a person.
