Nicholas Nybro SS18 Copenhagen Fashion Week
Nicholas Nybro’s SS18 collection – The Body – was designed to challenge perceptions of the perfect body because "we have become so timid and afraid to show our bodies and display what is underneath the clothes, which should be so natural." Cue a range of enormously creative pieces in skin hues from a chilly bluish shade, to warm beiges and deep browns – interspersed by a series of completely naked humans. It might seem odd to have a fashion show with around a third of the models showing only what their mama gave them but it had an enormously powerful message. The vulnerability, boldness, charm and indifference in those walking only in their skin was thought provoking to behold.
On the clothed models, the pieces were aesthetically awesome, from silky, draped and lightweight - layered jumpsuits, slick outerwear and elegant dresses - through to those that defied expectations of volume (and gravity). And – at the end of the show – Nicholas Nybro appeared to a round of applause. Also naked, of course. According to the designer, “It’s tiresome to say that fashion only presents itself nicely on tall, skinny models – if that’s the case then isn’t something very wrong with the clothes?“ That’s a sentiment with which we couldn’t agree more.
