Spring 2014 Skirt Edit
This season, fashion's sartorial sights are firmly locked and loaded on the midi skirt. Whilst proportions and lengths varied slightly between designers, this was a style that you couldn't miss on the SS14 catwalks. Encapsulating anything from below the knee to above the ankles, the midi carries with it an undeniable sense of femininity and elegance. Whether they were A-line and teamed with fitted jackets at Louis Vuitton, or flowing amidst long-sleeved jersey cropped tops at Vera Wang, this season's skirt was all about sophistication and subtlety, with just a glimpse of ankle.

The calf-flashing midi skirt was at the very core of Burberry Prorsum's collection, in an array of sweet petal hued pastels. Christopher Bailey masterfully contrasted prim and proper ladylike tailoring with risqué revealing lace and sheer detailing in a charmingly seductive collection. The midi skirt really popped when paired with a polka dot Roy Lichtenstein style blouse, but this season it's the coordinating shirt and pencil skirt ensemble that we're aching to get hold of.

Monique Lhullier's aptly named 'Sheer Elegance' collection gave a new lease of life to the ultra-sophisticated pencil skirt with tantalising tangerine, coral and raspberry hues and Eastern embellishments. This collection's printed silk midis were polished and ladylike, accompanied by collared lace blouses and sheer, floral detailing, artfully fusing oriental vibes with fifties femininity and offering a midi route to ultra refined elegance.

At the centre of Michael Kors' intrepid explorer themed collection were a series of swishy calf-length skirts, cultivated from a uniform palette of navy, grey and khaki. A storm of whimsical prints, from delicate flowers to tropical leaves, flowing silhouettes and light materials captured the catwalk, morphing the models into a team of fearless, and super chic, adventurers. The signature piece, a flippy hemmed midi in sheer swathes of silk crepe, was teamed with a matching bralette in what we're sure will be a highly emulated look this summer.
It's time to push your minis and maxis to the back of the wardrobe people and invest in what we think will be one of spring 2014's most notable trends. With so many styles, from ankle grazing to knee-length; pencil to pleated and matchy to boho, there is a perfect midi skirt for everyone this spring - and you won't have to look far to find it.
