DORA ABODI Spring/Summer 15
Dora Abodi SS15
Transylvanian born designer Dora Abodi ensured maximum impact with her SS15 catwalk show thanks to her eloquent Baroque Futurism concept. For this season the idea was to mix antiquity and fantasy in the form of a fictional cult – with an extra terrestrial dimension. The clever combination of robotic technology and classic cultural touchstones gave us prints that captured the darkest shadows of the imagination in the most opulent and intense way. The collection’s signature symbol - ‘The Twin Unisus’ – made enticing appearances throughout, in the prints, as well as in embroideries and the hand embellished ornaments.
Metallic royal blue, antique gold, champagne silver, stark white and transparent black made up a colour palette that was dripping with Baroque grandeur but also ripe with harsh metallic futurism. The same was true of the textural contribution with fabrics including hand cut leather, printed silks, silk organza, metallic gold lame, jacquard, cabochons, pearls and beads.
There was a darkness within the show - some models were horned and others branded with lettering – but the sense of romance was never lost. The collection was a thrilling indulgence of the dark side of the fairytale, with some Sci-Fi thrown in for good measure.
