Get Ready To Baroque And Roll
‘Baroque,’ what does it mean to you – tunes by Vivaldi or pics by Rembrandt? Maybe you’re all about the architecture of Christopher Wren. Well you can forget all that because this autumn baroque is all about fashion and if you haven’t tried out this glamorous and very regal trend yet then with the dark days of winter approaching it’s about time you did.
You might remember baroque from several runways a few seasons ago – Jonathan Saunders’ AW11 baroque prints, Mary Katrantzou AW 10 opulent baroque embellishments – or even from the first time it made an appearance back in the 90s (try to forget that if you can). Baroque is decadent, rich and lavish – a perfect antidote to both recessionary blues and winter grey skies – and its defining colours are black and gold. You’d recognise it instantly from the curling leaf patterns, expansive flowers, spirals, cherubs, curls twists and embellishments. Oh it’s very Bourgeois.
This season you can find it on just about anything – from dresses to trousers, shoes to sunglasses. You might even find a few examples of it in Anna Dello Russo’s collection for H&M (launched Friday night, check her video here). D&G love a big of baroque:
