Windowpane Check, Lemon Tart And Double Vision - Louis Vuitton SS13 Paris Fashion Week

Frankly we’ve been rather swamped at Glass Pineapple recently, what with the insane fashion month that is September and the fact that we’re deep into researching new brands and labels for our website launch.  However, when we saw the pics coming in from Marc Jacob’s Louis Vuitton show yesterday, we just had to have our say.  WHAT A SHOW.

From the incredible setting of imposing escalators and light clustered ceiling, to the pairing up of models wearing dual prints and designs it just screamed ‘bring it on newbies.’  If you had any doubts about how to stage a fashion show when you’re one of the biggest names in the industry then this was the blueprint.

Whilst Louis Vuitton has obviously always been big on statement prints, the boldness of the checks in this collection was exciting (made bolder by the unabashed giant polka dots of Yayoi Kusama’s collection perhaps?)

Big windowpane checks, vintage sixties shapes and contrast silhouette florals were the order of the day and on pairs of models no less (how decadent).  The colours were citrus fresh lemon and lime, sand, mocha, cream, dove grey and skin tones glimpsed through sheer peek-a-boo squares. Swing coats with little curved collars appeared alongside A line shifts, lightly puffed shoulders, subdued collars and ¾ sleeves.  There barely a flash of cleavage but midriff and some leg provided the skin.

Most of the collection felt very young, sporty and girly (perhaps thanks to the hair bows sported by each girl) but the last looks were black, glittering, high impact and all grown up.  We loved the hair bows, the matchy shoes and bags and the pairing of models who looked utterly unamused to be sharing their runway space….And we loved the catwalk, oh how we loved the catwalk - giant tarte au citron yellow squares that Dorothy, the scarecrow, the lion and the tin man would have been delighted to dance down, and that just made us want to whisper under our breaths whilst tapping our heels together, ‘there’s no place like Louis Vuitton, there’s no place like Louis Vuitton.’
