As you may have noticed back in September, one of the SS13 shows that we got the most excited about was the Louis Vuitton offering from Marc Jacobs at the Palais Royale. Apart from the glorious custard yellow that ran through many of outfits sported by the duos of models sailing down those escalators, what really captured our imagination was the use of checkerboard prints, giant squares and mini checks on the column-like silhouettes of the models.

As it turns out, Jacobs wasn’t the only one working the linear graphics vision as there were stripes, squares and checks everywhere from Oscar de la Renta, to Michael Kors and Hilfiger during the SS13 shows. Now that we’re edging our way towards spring, these bold prints are actually within our grasp - and we're excited.

Already several celebs have staked out their fashion credentials with a foray into bold lines and prints.

Of course this isn’t the first time that linear graphics have made their way onto the catwalk and subsequently tumbled into the high street but it’s not just about the prints themselves this time but the way you wear them. Take a tip from Marc Jacobs and wear your bold checks on knee length pencil skirts, head to toe column style or on cute cropped, long sleeved tops; go for colour and black stripey knits and striped oversized shapes as at Michael Kors, or even full length ballgowns as at Oscar de la Renta. However, you do it keep the lines as simple and straightforward as the prints on them - no ruffles, neat tailoring and bold, chic accessories that can stand up to a statement print.  We say 2013 is the year we dare to go square...
