We don’t know how she does it but somehow, despite all those bold sartorial choices, Mary Katrantzou never seems to put a foot wrong. Sunday’s SS14 collection was another lesson in Katrantzou-ism (a new type of fetish?) with a collection that focused on, of all things, shoes. But no cutesy cartoonish prints were there here, instead snapshots of trainers, gentlemen’s brogues and embellished evening mules – punched leather, lacing or neon trainer tongues – all in Katrantzou’s signature digital print style that will no doubt be copied and reproduced by those who can spot an embryonic trend.

However, for us at The Glass Pineapple, the real winners of the day were the cute as a button cocktail dresses, wildly and fabulously over the top embellished, alive with pleats or origami-esque folds. These sculptural creations had a fabulously 3D effect thanks to being printed onto silk and then embroidered and embellished over the top. They made us want to sing...

Simone Rocha

In complete contrast to the pretty pastel hues of her previous collection, for SS14 Simone Rocha went all monochrome on us. Inspired by the west coast of Ireland, this was a collection of wet rock blacks and mossy greens, sheened in a haze of misty sheers and cloudy whites. Silhouette-wise the shapes were full skirted, nipped at the waist, occasionally gashed, sometimes ruched, once or twice drop waisted and even topped with peplum. Texture was key, from silk to plastic to leatherette and the bustier proved a popular shape. Topknots resembled mini Mohawks and most looks were accompanied by under-the-knee pop socks trimmed with tiny white pom poms. It wasn’t what we expected from Simone Rocha for SS14 – and that’s why we like her.
