Paris Fashion Week: Nina Ricci SS14

Despite topless activists swamping the catwalk, Nina Ricci’s SS14 collection maintained its poise. This was partly thanks to the ladylike setting of Paris' Tuileries Gardens and the ever-elegant Olivia Palermo in the FROW, but mostly because of the series of ultra feminine, fluid looks in calming pale pastels and Zen white.

Flowing fabrics such as chiffon and silk were in abundance and the appearance of sheers gave ladylike a sexy femme fatale feel. We have seen flowing midi skirts with a super cosy wool jumper on many a catwalk for SS14 – at Nina Ricci this was updated by shortening hemlines to mini (summer might be over for now but this is no time to be giving up the pilates…).

Florals and ruffles endowed a feminine and flirty edge and the collection had a hint of the 60’s thanks to flared mini-skirts and silhouettes, updated by mixing with modern feminine tailoring. Last year’s sleeveless blazer made a welcome return, worn with a mercurial cocktail dress and peep toe heeled boots.

Models sported glowing and dewy complexions and perfectly smudged smoky eyes with hair whipped into a low ponytails – the understated look was all about leaving the designs to do the talking.

What we loved about many of the looks was how easy they will make that awkward transition from winter to spring to summer – see the collarless metallic tailored coat worn over multi-layers of sugary, high necked chiffon for details:
