Nolcha Shows kick off today, signalling the start of emerging fashion recognition during SS18 fashion month. With nine years on the clock now, Nolcha is held each season during New York Fashion Week, providing independent fashion designers with the opportunity to showcase their collections to a global audience of press, retailers, stylists and industry influencers. For the SS18 season we’ve picked out some of the Nolcha designers to watch.

Designer Eva Yiwei Xu has an MFA from School of the Art Institute of Chicago and interned with both Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren. She founded her label All Comes From Nothing in 2014 with the intention of creating womenswear designed for more creative lifestyles. The timeless and ageless styles are designed to provide an everyday wardrobe for creative souls. Expect structured silhouettes and minimal styling as well as statement prints.

Yu Lang by Lang Yu Nolcha Shows

We’ve covered this label on our Instagram previously as the designer Yang Lu is a master of the bright shade and the bold print. Yang Lu has previously shown at Shanghai Fashion Week and designs for modern, active lifestyles and women who are looking for clothing that enables self-expression. The SS18 collection is entitled “Fall in Love” and embraces deep reds and decadent folds embroidery and prints. Look out for the flamingo – often referred to as a metaphor of loyalty and faithfulness when comes to love.

Neubyrne

Neubyrne Nolcha Shows

Neubryne means “new you,” something this designer knows a lot about having survived a car crash that nearly killed her in 2013. The colourful, vibrant collections from designer Martha are a celebration of life in all its technicolour glory. Inspiration comes from travel, such as the beautifully intricate hand woven cloth from the Ta Oi Tribe, which features their symbolic language woven into the material. Neubryne partners with Fashion4Freedom, which takes a unique approach to enabling designers like Martha to access culture, craft and communities for collaboration.
