The Fashion Scout South-East Europe (SEE) Showcase AW17
Last season (SS17) we attended Belgrade Fashion Week and discovered some fantastic emerging designers, such as Budislava and Sonja Jocic. Fashion hubs outside of London, New York etc have had seasonal style events for decades – Belgrade celebrated 25 years of modern fashion design in Serbia last year – but unless you’re deeply immersed in the fashion ‘scene’ they aren’t always the easiest to find information on.
Fashion Scout has played a big role in spreading the joy about new names in global style, particularly from areas such as Serbia and the Ukraine. And for AW17 Fashion Scout teamed up with Belgrade Fashion Week to create the first ever Fashion Scout South-East Europe (SEE) showcase, a collection of 12 designers from four different countries. The designers hailed from Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia and were challenged to present a collection to industry luminaries, including journalist Hilary Alexander and Creative Director of Fashion Scout Martyn Roberts. The prize? A fully sponsored show at Fashion Scout SS18 in September – a big deal.
As Belgrade Fashion Week kicked off this week the SEE winner was announced - NEO Design by Nevena Ivanović from Serbia, with Ana Jelinič from Slovenia the runner-up, followed by KLISAB from Croatia and Victor Kaiser from Macedonia. There were also regional winners for each of the local fashion weeks who will showcase their collections next season in local cities: Petja Zorec (Slovenia) will show next season in Belgrade, KLISAB (Croatia) in Ljubljana and our old friends Ana Trošić Trajković (Serbia) will show in Skopje.
Exciting times for global emerging fashion, which is getting more accessible and diverse by the year. And congratulations to all the winners and we look forward to seeing the collections launch.
